What to Expect During a Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implants are made of surgical grade titanium, placed underneath the gum line, and fused into the bone. On the day of your dental implant procedure in Dallas, you’ll receive a local anesthetic to numb your gums and jawbone. If you’re particularly nervous, another sedative medication such as nitrous oxide may be administered as well. Once you are numb, one of our highly trained and experienced dentists will make an incision in your gum line and firmly insert a tiny titanium implant into your jaw. The dentist may stitch up a portion of the incision site and place a temporary crown.

A few weeks later, you’ll visit our office once again to complete the dental implant process. The dentist will make a small incision in your gum to expose the titanium implant and place an extension on the implant for the permanent crown. The permanent crown, which will be customized to match your surrounding teeth will then be placed on your implant.

How to Care for Your Dental Implants

As long as you care for your Dallas dental implants, they should last for decades. Fortunately, doing so is a breeze. You’ll care for your dental implants the same way you care for your natural teeth. We recommend that you brush them at least twice a day and floss them once daily.

Also, visit our office on a regular basis for routine exams and cleanings. In addition, stay away from bad habits such as smoking and chewing pens, fingernails and other non-food items that can damage your dental implants and hinder your overall oral health. There’s no need for any special cleansers as device as your implants will look and feel like your natural teeth.
